Honey-Based Jams and Jellies | Saturday, April 17
Making jams and jellies is one of the best ways to capture the bright flavors of seasonal fruit. In this class, we will walk through the jam/jelly making process but focus on using honey as an alternative sweetener.
The two recipes we be making in class are Blackberry, Honey and Thyme Jam and Lemon-Honey Jelly. We will walk through the process, step-by-step, for creating homemade jam and jelly. Through learning the process of jams/jellies, you can safely create both savory and sweet jams that will last for many years. This will be a good class to take before you start going to Farmers' Markets so you know how much fresh or frozen fruit is needed for jams and jellies before you buy!
Class will be held at Next to Nature Farm, 23338 Kissinger Road, Leavenworth, KS 66048. There will be two class times with a limit of 8 people per class. Come prepared to help prep and cook the jams/jelly (i.e. don't wear your Sunday best dress). Registrants will also get to pick one jelly or jam to take home as part of the class.
Participants will also receive safety information for canning, handouts, and recipes for further canning experiences. Class is limited to 8 participants and pre-registration is required. Face masks are encouraged since we cannot easily socially distance in this class environment.
